  1. Markus

Hey Lena, I came up with a game last night. Fancy giving it a go before break ends?

  2. Lena

Go on then. What's it called?

  3. Markus

Wall Bounce – that's what I'm calling it. You throw a ball at the wall and shout a number: one, two or three. The other person catches it after that many bounces.

  4. Lena

So it bounces off the wall, hits the ground, and I wait for the right number before grabbing it?

  5. Markus

Exactly. If I shout 'two', you let it hit the ground twice, then catch it.

  6. Lena

And if I catch it properly – after the right number – do I get a point?

  7. Markus

Yeah, that's your point. But if you grab it too early or too late, or drop it, that's my point. We swap who throws after every valid turn; first to five wins.

  8. Lena

What if it barely skims the ground? Could we set a minimum height for a bounce?

  9. Markus

Good idea. Each bounce has to reach knee height. If it doesn't, we ignore that throw and redo it. No points.

  10. Lena

Makes sense. And when it's my turn to throw, I pick the number too, yeah?

  11. Markus

Yes, whoever's throwing calls it. I should've made that clearer.

  12. Lena

One more thing – what if it comes off the wall completely sideways and I can't reach it?

  13. Markus

Then nobody scores. The thrower just throws it again – you've got to aim roughly straight.

  14. Lena

Alright, I think I've got the hang of it. You want to throw first?

  15. Markus

No, you go ahead. I want to try catching first.

  16. Lena

Alright, but don't laugh if my first throw's a bit off.

  17. Markus

I won't. If the rules feel silly when we start, we'll just tweak them. No pressure. Ready when you are.

  18. Lena

Right then. Here goes – two!

  19. Markus

One bounce, two – caught it! That's one point to me. Not as tricky as it looks.

  20. Lena

Ha, alright! Your turn – go on, make it three. Let's make it interesting.
