- here are some reasons I've come up with to support my argument I'm going to choose this reason for my first body paragraph
- now that I know the focus of my paragraph I can write my topic sentence remembering that a topic sentence should provide an overview of what the
- paragraph will be about which of these sentences would make a good topic sentence pause here while you decide these two won't make good topic
- sentences for this paragraph this paragraph is about sport helping to develop teamwork skills effective communication and supporting
- one another are only part of teamwork these two sentences are too narrow to be our topic sentence
- this topic sentence is too broad it doesn't mention our Focus teamwork this topic sentence will work well it makes clear to the reader what this
- paragraph will be about now we have a topic sentence to begin our paragraph
- next we need to include details evidence and examples that support the main idea of the paragraph that sport helps students develop teamwork skills
- think of the rest of the paragraph As the proof for your opinion now while we're writing a persuasive paragraph it's important to remember the purpose
- of the text is to convince people of our point of view for this reason we should be using persuasive devices
- here's a list we can use as a reference for our lessons focused on persuasive devices see the two links in the video description
- here are some notes of details evidence and examples I've come up with to support my opinion notice I've planned to use some
- persuasive techniques I've used adverbs quickly efficiently actively adjectives strong and clear
- and a modal verb will help now it's important to organize these ideas in a logical order I think that these two ideas go well
- together because listening and giving instructions is part of communicating I'll put this first and this second I've researched and found a study that
- provides evidence that sport helps communication skills so that might go well next that means this sentence can go last
- now I'll turn my notes into sentences and put everything together here's my paragraph so far
- the last sentence of the paragraph is usually a concluding sentence that sums up the idea of the paragraph and links it to the main idea of the text
- and more time for Sports in school is needed I think this sentence will work well for that purpose it doesn't introduce any
- new ideas but it summarizes and links you might have noticed I've used another couple of persuasive devices in the
- paragraph here I've used alliteration perfect platform here I've used emotive language
- one last thing to point out is the importance of conjunctions or connectives conjunctions can be used to introduce
- reasons to add more information and to show cause and effect in this paragraph I've used the conjunction furthermore to add more
- information about the benefits of sport I might be able to use a conjunction to begin my next paragraph for example I could write another key
- benefit of sports or secondly sport offers students now it's your turn have a go at writing a body paragraph using one of these
- topics or one of your own remember whichever topic you choose make a list of reasons and form your paragraph around one of those
