  1. i just have another question you just mentioned that in front of allah of male and female they are equal but there is
  2. uh there is a hadees in which uh prophet muhammed mentioned that a woman's religious responsibility is half
  3. of that of a man and so is her intelligence he doesn't say it's half he says it's deficient it's not
  4. this is the hadith of uh [Music]
  5. he stated you know that uh women are naked question is is it talking about specific equipment or is it
  6. is talking about those ones he was talking about some women that are not good to them because he mentions in this particular hadith
  7. the ones that yakforna lashir that they are ungrateful to their husbands and in another hadith the prophet
  8. muhammad sallam he stated that these types of women this archetype of women the un ungrateful woman archetype
  9. you know if you if you try and be so good to them they will say you've not you've never done anything good for me so there is an archetype of an
  10. ungrateful woman who is the prophet refers to as yak forza and they'll they will be populating the
  11. hellfire because there are engraits particularly women that in the home they they don't show gratitude to
  12. their husbands or to their generally even their ingrid's so these particular women
  13. in the sense that they have days where they don't pray everyone knows that okay and they're not helped to account for that because
  14. account more than it can handle and in fact allah in the quran very explicitly mentions in many verses that the spiritual eco
  15. of the spiritual equality between men and women in the quran that allah does not let to waste any good deed of any of you
  16. who do good deeds from man or woman and both of you are from one another
  17. and so on and so forth allah mentions in the quran also the mukmins man and woman the the believers man and woman the praying
  18. ones the man and woman the charitable ones the man and woman prepared for them forgiveness and great reward
  19. so allah was reprimanding uh these particular archetype of via foreign the question is is this an impulse which is generalized
  20. to the entire woman community in other words are all women or is it some woman now you could interpret this hadith to say no it's
  21. actually those ones who yak for nala those ones who show in gratitude in the marriage or you could say and this seems to be
  22. the opinion of the vast majority of those who executed this particular hadith that all women have an axe or a
  23. a less ability a lesser ability in hakal among you those who have believed among you and the ones who have
  24. been given knowledge in degrees so knowledge is the thing that allah praises
  25. allah states that only the ones who are truly have are the ones who truly believe allah
  26. that allah raises in ranks those who have knowledge etcetera etcetera et dunya malawi
  27. where the whole world is cursed except for you know the islam and the one who's so the islam in islam is praised highly and there's nothing in the
  28. religion of islam to indicate that men have a higher ability or propensity to have more knowledge than women
  29. but there is definitely something and this hadith it could be used as an evidence to indicate that now what does
  30. the word alkal comes from the arabic word and the alkyl is literally the thing that people put around the head
  31. have you ever seen this kind of and basically in the animal in the horse or something like that it's the thing which you control the horse
  32. whether it goes left or right so it's this is the opposite of it is jahl and jahl is not just ignorance that's
  33. false jahal is a lack of ability to control your emotions this hadith therefore it's saying that simply men
  34. for the most part are less emotionally driven than women now this might sound controversial but
  35. i actually done a um particular you know study my own kind of social experiment well i picked up the words of simon de bewa
  36. in her book the second sex and she actually states this very candidly in her book and there's chapter number two of biology
  37. where she says that women are more emotional than men she usually she used almost exactly the same language and she even
  38. she even went into detail about how and why she uh women are more emotional who she is though
  39. is one of the founding mothers of this of the second wave feminist movement she said this and no feminist disagreed with her on this matter
  40. the fact of the matter is if someone wants to come into the sphere of psychology and say that there are no physiological
  41. or psychological differences or indeed any biological difference or anatomical difference between men and women
  42. this will be a laughing they'll be made a laughing stock this is ridiculous in fact study after study after study has shown us
  43. of the material biological differences between men and women i remember being in school even when i was doing my a levels
  44. some maybe 10 years ago now and there was a study we had to go through mcguire a woman who's called maguire who did the study of um the hippocampus
  45. region in the brain and she basically got these people these men before they did something called the knowledge which is like a course that
  46. they do in london for the black cat the black cab and they went under mris everyone went
  47. under mris and they checked their brain the gray matter in the gray in the in their brains so they checked before and after in the
  48. hippocampus region and what she found which is interesting was that almost all of the people in that study
  49. increased in gray matter in the hippocampus region after the 18-month knowledge training that they'd done
  50. now having said that one of the findings of the study and by the way maguire is a woman so there's no he can't you know oh it's men doing the study and all this
  51. kind of nonsense maguire is a woman yeah she came to the conclusion that men have more gray matter in the hippocampus as standard than women do
  52. now this question of who's better at driving men or women who's better at spatial awareness men or women is there anything that we have as
  53. biological medical evidence to suggest that men are actually better at special awareness than women the answer is yes now whether you want
  54. to interpret that as oh therefore men are better than women or therefore they are not that's something which is interpretive i'm not
  55. saying one or the other but what i am saying is that there are some hard facts which seem to show us good evidence
  56. there's some good evidence there that there are some differences which may affect behavior and we know this for a fact is the case
  57. when you have different hormones in your body testosterone and estrogen are two very different hormones get a woman
  58. okay who has um an estrogen count of i don't know what yeah a woman's depending on how you um measure it has like almost a tenth of
  59. the amount of testosterone as a man you give woman testosterone yeah give her hgh human growth hormone or something like this right
  60. just give her human growth hormone and see what she does in two weeks four weeks see if her behavior changes see if her
  61. this position changes of course it will be the case that it does even her voice may change you the muscle tissue will change
  62. and so on and so forth so these are these are straight facts that people don't want to admit and so yes we're not really shy to admit
  63. that the majority opinion is that in islam there seems to be evidence to suggest that men have more emotional control
  64. than women and this may be the case in some areas and not in others for example an area where men have more emotional sorry
  65. women have more emotional control than men is there are two clear areas that you can see with the data and sociology
  66. very easily number one is sexual desire and that's why you'll find that that's alluded to in the quran when allah was talking about
  67. who should lower their gaze you know and tell to the believing men that they should lower their gaze
  68. and then he talks about the woman okay because there's a special catering for the weakness of man the quran states the man has been
  69. created weak so yes man is uh more impulsive more irrational when it comes to sexual desire and therefore
  70. the sharia has come and spoken to the man in that certain way that's why when uh the prophet muhammed when he speaks and he reprimands a
  71. person who shares their sexual secrets he says he mentions the word man by the way he doesn't want you the word woman because sexual desire and sharing and
  72. boasting about sexual it would seem to be more a crime that man would commit likewise aggressivity and criminal
  73. attitudes and killing who does that more men or women men do that more they are more and so therefore women are less uh
  74. 95 percent of people that go into for murder in most countries are men what kind of statistic would one want in order to really
  75. prove that men are more aggressive than women something like that is huge so in in general therefore we say that we we have nothing to what is the point
  76. of contention we say yes there are certain emotions men can control better than women and that can help them in everyday life
  77. it can help them with certain circumstances and that would seem to be the general rule certain other emotions like
  78. aggressivity and sexual desire women would seem to be more in control over because of their hormonal structure and physiological
  79. structure and this is indicated in the hadith and i don't think there's anything contentious about that
  80. from a scientific perspective at all what do you think uh my friend before we continue yeah so you know you raised some very good points
  81. uh let's just see what she says oh sorry yeah yeah i completely agree with everything you said
  82. it makes sense oh that's nice that's good do you want to add to that no i have myself straight equality so i know all these things oh fantastic
  83. fantastic so i don't have to try and convince you yeah so i i was just going to say thank you thank you thank you so much
  84. thank you so i was just going to recommend uh fifth wave feminism uh hijab in a book
  85. um and you you get a very interesting i mean it's a little bit like it's a little bit on the deep end but you still
  86. understand that when it comes to the different waves of uh feminist ideologies none of them actually deny
  87. the the biological differences between men and women in fact if anything their arguments are premised
  88. on the fact that they are disadvantaged by biologically therefore they should be advantaged sociologically and i think that's why
  89. the way that hijab explained that particular narration if anything you know we're taught in islam
  90. to you know uh treat women in a way that is more merciful than say a capitalistic society right so for example we we know of the narration
  91. of the prophet sallam where he speaks about women and orphans and he categorizes them as being the same
  92. as being vulnerable right and um in fact the story just to add to that the the a in the quran says this it says
  93. so it's this in fact allah says they ask you about women yeah this is in chapter four of the quran i don't know if it's
  94. verse 120 something right they ask you about women yes allah will tell you about the woman
  95. and then he says and he will also tell you about another group of people which are the orphans like you said yeah and then he starts talking about
  96. the weak wicked situation and how you have to be merciful with them and so on yeah so yeah this idea of mercy is even in the quran and also
  97. some other things that they are and this is not and again it's sad that today we can't state the islamic position without having to
  98. actually show that western academics or somebody else has come to the same conclusion and the reason why we do that is to
  99. safeguard us from uh claims of misogyny or sexism and stuff like this so i'm going to do the same thing
  100. i'm going to give a quranic paradigm yeah an islamic paradigm but i'll have to explain it within a western context to safeguard myself right
  101. so one of the things that uh feminist philosophers have actually spoken about is that prostitution the sex industry uh the pornographic industry and any of
  102. these exploitive industries they uh they basically attack women and they subjugate women and humiliate women and objectify women
  103. and they pick on women this is very interesting this is according to the uh feminist philosophers themselves this they
  104. like andrea dawkins i've seen this there's another one catherine i've forgotten what her name is katherine it's actually in the lecture
  105. not mckinnon mckinnon mckinnon yeah these are radical feminists yeah and what she basically speaks about is that uh pornography basically being
  106. a a way of um uh vulnerable basically women being exploited and so on and so forth so the thing is and look again uh
  107. i i don't want to say this in a way that somebody takes this clip out of context and just just goes to town with it yeah a woman
  108. that has a strong family bond in which she has a brother a father a cousin these people are way way less likely to get into
  109. these horrible industries and islam has this uh this this concept of guarding the woman being a protector for
  110. the woman and you know it's very interesting when we look at for example they're making girls look like um
  111. that woman kim karda kardashian right uh like they're popularizing her and they're doing these types of things
  112. however the sad thing is and someone pointed this out this wasn't here i think there's a woman who pointed this out on twitter or one of these things
  113. that this woman kim she's walking around but she has big body gods she has men who are there
  114. to protect her but when it comes to the idea in in islam right that okay so a woman is uh you know no
  115. she doesn't need protection wasn't she married to jay-z or something i i don't know who she was married to but wasn't he there but you know
  116. it's very interesting and also this um this this idea that feminists um have about um you know the inequality that women need protection
  117. because of xyz and that's why they're trying to get protection from other women however and this is again i'm not trying to
  118. uh put people down but they still need the feminist movement and you know even the radicals they need the men to buy into it yeah of
  119. course why because they know that essentially unless you get that does gear unless you get that approval
  120. then in a way is kind of superfluous yeah so look islam's view that men are the protectors it's not in a way to disempower the
  121. woman who do you protect you protect a king you protect a royalty do you protect a slave or peasant no so islam is there to empower the
  122. woman by telling her you have protection but what they've done is the feminists have turned it on its head and have made it oppressive
  123. the idea of man being the guardian of a woman is oppressive so you know ultimately even though hijab you gave a brilliant
  124. explanation of that narration sadly we are having to contextualize it within the western framework because even muslim women themselves
  125. not all of them but some muslim women have been so affected by western uh feministic ideologies that they won't find these ideas palatable
  126. unless they're cushioned within this western language that's a really good point i think that's this is and this is a
  127. problem i think this shows uh lack of submission to be honest and a lot of the people that read these kinds of i'm not saying that our guest
  128. um is very very um no martial very reasonable well i'm saying that there are some women that you know to be honest with
  129. you not just women but some men as well that they they challenge islam yeah and let me tell you something about this because i've
  130. i really have suffered with these people i have suffered with these people honestly these people there are some did you end
  131. up in hospital when you were at one time i just like you know thinking about it and felt sick about what they were
  132. saying because honestly when i when i speak to these people right and when i say these people who
  133. are talking about i'm talking about muslims so-called muslims i will say so-called muslims right who have come to the
  134. conclusion that certain verses of the quran should not be there or that they are outdated or something like this
  135. and they will challenge versus precepts and kawatea of the quran and the sunnah okay and the and with the with the language of feminism
  136. and for all intents and purposes they're committing they're committing the major disbelief yeah um and they and they still have the audacity to
  137. challenge people and we feel like we need to be on the back foot all the time and i say this we will do our job in telling you the most convincing thing
  138. based on the paradigm that you guys believe in or that you're most convinced with but the problem is not ours at the end of
  139. the day the problem is yours not yours but the person who believes in these kind of things the one who reads surat in this the one
  140. who watches um well sorry uh yanny reads the hadith of the prophet and the polygamy and you know whatever it may be
  141. uh that he can marry can divorce in a different way that woman can or they can marry a juror christian or that whatever differences exist or that
  142. she has to wear the hijab or the abaya all of these things that are continually being talked about the difference is the notable
  143. differences between sexes and you are uncomfortable with these things and you in your mind actually think that they're oppressive
  144. the problem is with you because if you really believe this was a book from god they all knowing they're wise you wouldn't have this question
  145. we have to do all this cushioning for you and helping and scaffolding for you if you come with arrogance then you know what to be honest you then i will say to
  146. you you're a disbeliever you are a disbeliever because you come and say oh is the quran shouldn't put this in the judah
  147. then you know what that's different from someone that come and come and say look i have a doubt if you have a doubt you're staying
  148. within the fold of islam you're still but if you come and say um i don't believe that this should be in the quran like this
  149. this disbelieving woman her name is um amina wadud she's a kafir you know she said that i when i looked at 434
  150. i had a conscientious gap and i don't i don't believe in this verse okay we don't then you have left islam
  151. incoming you know do you believe in parts of the book and this place is our part of the
  152. book this is not a joke you know allah will humiliate you on the day of judgement etc you can't pick and choose what you want from this religion
  153. that's the bottom line if you're if you're coming in and saying well i don't want i don't like this idea that a man is the protector and maintainer of the
  154. woman i don't like this idea what do you mean you don't like this idea who are you to say i don't like this idea
  155. who are you to challenge the authority of allah you don't you must not believe that muhammad was a true prophet then
  156. that's what the end result is if you're saying that these verses are just then you must believe that this man muhammad who came in the 7th century
  157. was a fake was a was a charlatan that's what you believe because if you truly believed he was a true prophet you would not
  158. challenge those verses with arrogance and in fact have the audacity to come forward and say these verses should not be there
  159. or i have a conscientious gap or they should not this is called this is something which takes you out of the hold of islam there's no joke
  160. anymore we're not playing games we're not helping yeah but it's different between apologetics and
  161. for doubts and someone who come and challenge the quran and think that they in the name of feminism and women's rights
  162. we what do you mean feminism and women's rights that you come and you say well you shouldn't be able to this understand i should be able to have equality and
  163. you're using the language of the colonial the colon colonizer because you have been colonized because you have been colonized and you
  164. you think you're a clever person coming with these things and destroying homes and families because you can't you can't you don't
  165. believe in power results you don't believe in obedience you don't believe in any such concept you make a mockery even though
  166. even that concept itself is in the quran what you mean you don't believe in hierarchies in the managerial
  167. hierarchies within the whole home i don't believe in no no we're the same well you're not the same and if there was a burglar that came into the house
  168. you'd be the first one to run run like a coward don't talk like you that you're like a man you can't fight a man you can't be a man
  169. those women that think at one time the first time i was speaking to a woman before i got married the first time and for marriage and stuff like that and
  170. the moment she said to me i said this true story yeah i was in university at that time and i said she just come up and she said
  171. something like um i said what you do for burger king i said she goes i'll deal with her you can go call the police bro
  172. i'm a six foot six 270 pound man and you are nobody compared to me and if i wanted to if me and you are in the same place and
  173. close the doors i can take your life i have the ability to take your life don't come and talk to me about i'm going to be calling the police and
  174. you're going to be fighting the guy don't talk like that you understand yeah certain people like that they need to understand
  175. that when the the proverbial like hamza says hits the fan that this is a real talk when the war happens then you're gonna
  176. need the best man to be on the front line okay when the fire happens you're gonna need the fastest man to go get your kitten
  177. that's it and so if you're coming to me with equality addition that and absolute equality like negotia said in her book the common
  178. communist manifesto she said everything should be equal except for breastfeeding what should it should also be equal in in war should
  179. also be equal in when uh when there's a situation of uh m now as the quran states no it's not and so this is a false paradigm that has been
  180. forced upon us by these colonial white feminists white colonial feminists who have forced this paradigm on us
  181. and unfortunately just like a lot of our countries were colonized a lot of our people are colonized now absolutely and you know you you really
  182. made a very important point when it comes to uh warfare now i've been doing some research in
  183. terms of evolutionary warfare uh as part of my sort of research yeah this is a good point and what's very interesting right
  184. is that and again i'm saying this within the western context of what academia is saying i'm not saying i agree with you i
  185. disagree women are preferred not to be the leaders during times of difficulty security
  186. issues national security issues or warfare or any of these types of situations even men who have feminine features i'm not
  187. going to go into what was meant by that even they would not be preferred what would be preferred is actually somebody who looks intimidating
  188. somebody who is definitely male right why is that i mean look at look at america they've never caught they've never bloody voted
  189. in a woman in history even though they have been a little hillary critic yeah and also women yeah yeah also by the way some people use outliners to
  190. try and make a point so they'll say something like margaret thatcher but we can deal with that because because there's some important
  191. points here now the important thing to actually know is that when it comes to a war between a man uh between uh
  192. one one group of people and another group of people what you actually have and again i i'm just citing the studies i'm not saying
  193. it's my opinion what the studies are saying is basically this woman women have the ability to tend and befriend right and they have
  194. the ability to actually switch allegiances to the other tribe to switch allegiances post-war to actually
  195. um to accommodate simulation assimilation right and the man actually has the ability to have this in-group bias
  196. right and to actually have this uh protectionism and have this national this is your reading yeah this is studies these are studies
  197. that you can actually get let's give us some names so for example um you can look at the book is called mismatch um uh i
  198. forgot forgotten the author but anything to evolutionary psychology okay there you go here's some good names right yeah yeah so
  199. john tube and leader cosmetics so these are two it's a husband and wife uh they've written about
  200. uh sex differences they've written about uh during uh times of warfare richard random uh he's written about military incompetence
  201. being adaptive you know so these are just some names that just came at the top of my head but what these people actually do
  202. is they look at the sex differences during warfare and there is immense amount of differences so you
  203. can't say a woman is going to be the same as a man during warfare because one of the things that has been found is that a woman would be hesitant
  204. in warfare she would be hesitant to actually go into confrontation and and some people have used this uh uh for the they've used a a valid point for
  205. an invalid conclusion they've said well if women are in charge that would basically mean the whole world would be a lot more peaceful well
  206. firstly here's the point women being in charge of say the entire world if every single leader was a woman would there be less
  207. wars yes but hypothetically can it ever be the case that all of the leaders in the world are women
  208. no because what happens naturally is the men are more aggressive the men are more dominating and the men normally go up the hierarchy so if someone does select
  209. a woman to be uh the leader of a particular tribe and the other tribes are hostile that's the end of your lineage that's
  210. the end of your your your whole uh society because she will not be able to make those particular types of decisions and the
  211. other thing to actually keep in mind is that the qualities of a woman when it comes to certain decisions when it comes to child-rearing when it comes to
  212. these things which the feminists actually downplay but they are the um as imam josie said that women are all of society because they're half of
  213. society which give birth to the to the other half these absolutely crucial functions men cannot do like you leave a man
  214. we're both fathers here leave a man with the kids for a few hours and the wife goes out you come back did you feed the kids oh i forgot to
  215. this happened to me the other day my wife said did you feed them i was like oh i didn't like my wife would be like okay are they
  216. hungry are they playing are they doing this let me just add one thing just for the sake of you know adding texture to what
  217. you said to be fair the idea of women being leaders i don't think it's a categorical in the islamic narrative
  218. and i'll tell you why right yeah but i was giving the i was giving the in warfare the evolution of even
  219. myself even in warfare let me explain why i'll give you the evidence as well um actually chapter 28 of the quran the the idea of
  220. sheba sheba was actually a queen as we know and she was in charge in the paradigm and
  221. in in fact in in the quran when she was in charge she was in charge when there was a threat of war and there was a threat of war from
  222. sulaiman alaihissalam and she in fact there's i've been thinking about this quite deeply i'll tell you something right
  223. chapter 27 of sultan chapter 28 chapter 27 it describes firaoun's rulership and his authority as a leader and it describes it in a very negative
  224. manner and in fact if his actual leadership is this is described um uh in in because of his pomp and
  225. because of his arrogance in a negative way their very next surah and this is a a thing that the quran does quite often
  226. like the next surah it juxtaposes what's in the previous quran you have now shiva who's also a leader but she was a very wise leader so one
  227. for example when suleiman sent the letter and it says
  228. don't become arrogant upon me and come muslims so she went to her people she went to the chiefs of her and they and they and and and they were
  229. saying just tell us whatever you want they said so tell us what you want us to do right we're strong people right
  230. now bear in mind there's two things here in the previous surah firaoun was asking his melet what to do
  231. in this surah sheba who's a queen a woman right she's telling her she is giving advice to her mele she's giving advice to her chiefs so if
  232. her own is asking what should we do and then they're telling him okay do this do that um you know and he's giving him bad advice and he's taking the bad
  233. advice and his advice of aggression whereas what she says is that when the male when the muluc when the kings come into
  234. a place they destroy and they make the most high people the most low and they'll do the same thing for us
  235. i'm going to send a gift to suleiman blah blah blah and then the gift came to him and then afterwards she was invited to come and
  236. then a war was basically defused for all intended purposes the idea therefore i i i want to be very the reason why i've interrupted here and
  237. said this to texturize this a little bit i don't think the islamic narrative necessarily depicts women leaders as always ineffective on ineffectual i
  238. think sometimes you need a woman and sometimes you need a man sometimes a woman will be more effective
  239. and sometimes the man will be more effective but the truth of the matter is this okay the majority of prophets in islam women
  240. this is a fact isn't the most widespread of them right some scholars say you know was a prophet and mariam was a prophet and moses mum
  241. was a prophet that is the opinion of i think sulti and the same words are used to because you know by the way this is some
  242. scholars say this and some scholars say that i'm not here to do right the vast majority of prophets if not all of them were men
  243. there's a reason for that okay the reason is simply because the type of societies that existed a full time
  244. for the most part they would have been advantaged with a man being the leader especially when part of the responsibility was generalship like
  245. actual military generalship and i do agree that general military generalship the the advantage will be for the man
  246. even though the exception to that rule is that a woman can sometimes make great and wise and aggressive in whatever decisions that also a man can
  247. make so what we don't want is we don't want these people to use the exception to try and prove the rule because the
  248. exception only uh disproves the rule the exception actually only does uh the opposite it proves the rule
  249. it proves the rule but it doesn't mean to say that women can't make good decisions in power and it doesn't mean to say all the islam
  250. uh islamic opinions uh are saying that women can't be in charge of provinces of countries or something like that that's not
  251. some scholars say they can be absolutely and so on and so forth for the general khilafah and not for the willard or for
  252. the country for the province so in summary therefore i would say that there are some differences which are very out like much outlined in the
  253. quranic in islamic discourse and we have to be comfortable with them that would suggest to us that there are some fundamental differences we must
  254. respect that's it really yeah so um what do you want to do in terms of time it's 9 40 now
  255. i'll pray and then you pray and then we will do an hour we'll do an hour one more after this one more hour after this
  256. i mean we've done 40 minutes so it's up to you so we'll go until we'll go until like one hour one fifty one hour fifteen no worries it's all
  257. right so you you you go i'll pray first you pray with the brother yeah and then you pray yeah yep and then you and then yeah direction is
  258. this way yeah okay thank you very much um sister for your question so i'm going to be moving thank you so
