- What did Jesus actually say about yoga? I've been asking myself that for years. Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher. I
- have spent the last 5 years traveling all around the world practicing and exploring yoga through a Christian lens. In this video, I'm sharing what I have
- discovered, what the Bible says, what Jesus actually taught, and how you can practice yoga in a way that aligns with your faith. Let's discover
- together. So, let's start with the facts. Jesus never actually mentioned yoga. Yoga as we know it developed in ancient
- India and has deep roots in Hindu philosophy. Jesus lived in first century Judea, far removed from that context. So if you're looking for a Bible verse
- where Jesus talks about downward dog, it doesn't exist. But that doesn't mean we can't explore how his teachings might guide us on this.
- In John 4:24 ESV, Jesus says, "God is spirit." And those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. What does this mean for yoga?
- Well, some worry about yoga's spiritual roots, especially if it involves mantras or meditation tied to other religions. But here's the key. As followers of
- Jesus, we're called to worship authentically and in truth. That includes being discerning. First John 4:1 ESV says,
- "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the
- world." If a practice leads your heart toward God, then great. But if it starts blending in beliefs that don't align with your faith, that's where spiritual
- discernment comes in. Now, let's talk about the body. In 1 Corinthians
- 6:19-20, Paul writes, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you
- were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. This verse is super powerful. It reminds us that how we treat our body
- matters to God. Movement, breath work, rest, all of that can be sacred when done with the right heart. Yoga stripped of its religious ritual
- and focused on breath flexibility and awareness can be a way of caring for that temple your body which is made in the image of God and that's something
- Jesus valued deeply through his healing compassion and physical presence. Jesus also modeled stillness and solitude. In Matthew 66 ESV, he taught,
- "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your father who is in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you."
- And in Mark 1:35 ESV, it says, "And rising very early in the morning while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he
- prayed. He regularly sought quiet to connect with God." It sounds a little like mindfulness, right? Except for Jesus, it
- was always God- centered. So if you're using yoga as a time to quiet your soul and refocus your heart
- on God, you might actually be walking in his footsteps even if you are in tree pose. So what did Jesus say about yoga? Nothing directly actually. But his
- words give us wisdom. It's not about the poses. It's about your posture of your heart. If yoga helps you honor your body, draw closer to God, and
- if it gives you more peace and purpose, then do it with intention. Do it with Christ at the center. Thank you for being here,
- beautiful souls. I appreciate your time and your energy. And if this was information that was helpful for you or if it might be helpful for a friend that
- might be wondering the same thing, I would love it if you shared with them. Comment below if you have questions. I would love to engage in some
- conversations. And um I just wish you the best. Be blessed and um go in peace. Thanks, friends.
